American factory

What does the documentary say about the differences in American and Chinese work culture and expectations?

The documentary show a clear gap between the American and Chinese culture. As I understood it was a Chinese company located in Ohio. It was supposed go give americans new job opportunities, however the company were driven by Chinese standards. Everything was supposed to be done fast and efficient, for a low price. If you didn't do your job correctly or fast enough you got fired. Eventually all the American leaders in the top got fired, and the American workers didn't have anyone they could come and talk to about existing problems.

In America they are used to have a union, that protects them from all these things. That is a huge theme in the documentary, whether to vote in an Union or not. It seemed like most of the Americans were positive to that, because they wanted to feel secure. I feel like they are more aware of their rights, and grow up learning about fairness, and being critical.

However, the chinese are not used to that. They didn't want to be tied in with an Union, because the chinese at the top wanted to do what was best for them and not the workers. In the documentary the chinese have their own meetings with only chinese workers, where they basically talk bad about the Americans, saying they are lazy and very overconfident. They are also talking about how they are better then them no matter what. I think the chinese grow up much more strictly, not knowing so much about how i can and maybe should be. Kind off just learning how it is, and that is the way it is. You have to work hard, and be the best at what you do.

The Chinese leaders talked about how to “manage” the American workers. Because they weren't as efficient and obedient as the Chinese workers. They usted methods as threatening and firing to scare people into doing what the company wanted them to. These are methods i think they use a lot in china, to discipline the workers and have more control of them. An example of that is the tape, where they have bought in a guy to convince workers to vote no. He says that if they don't, if they start a strike, they might be permanently replaced. They are coming to America with their chinese company and methods and are not willing to change.

I think the people in China are raised more strictly than what they are in for example America. They are being treated like slaves in work, and have to do everything they ask you to. In America they are aware of their rights to speak, an okay salary and good workings conditions. I think it's dumb to bring Chinese traditions into America, thinking it will work with no changes.
